Grammar PowerPoints to Intrigue Your Students

Practice makes perfect when it comes to baseball.... and even grammar! Having routines in any classroom is very crucial. Foundations are built and set in motion at the beginning of each school year, so it just makes sense to have a routine when it comes to teaching grammar. 

Each week, I start this routine off with an interactive PowerPoint. For example, my Relative Pronouns & Adverbs PowerPoint. This weekly process {pictured below} starts by breaking down this skill with a definition, followed by examples, and finally the practice problems.




Each PowerPoint comes with ten clickable questions with answers. The questions are always the highlight of each Monday! By the time we get to the last question, they are ready to keep answering more. This is where the rest of the grammar centers and activities come in.

The Grammar Bundle that Keeps on Growing

As a TpT author, my passion is making grammar products. Here's a look at my weekly classroom schedule...
Monday: I introduce the grammar skill for the week with the PowerPoint. Each PPT gives a definition along with examples for the weekly skill. After all of the terms and samples are shown, there are ten interactive questions available. This is usually my students' favorite part! They are always excited to participate in this part! Every Monday always ends with *sigh* "Are there any more questions?!" Usually, ten are about all we have time for before we move on to centers where they will get more practice.

Tuesday - Thursday: As I mentioned before, I keep use some of the other items in weekly centers for them to practice on throughout the week. I usually put the Sort and Task Cards in two of my ELA weekly centers.

Wednesday: Wednesday night, I have students take home the handout to bring back on Thursday's. Then, I can check them and see who needs to be pulled into a small group to be retaught or given extra practice.
Friday: Quiz day! Each student takes a quiz on this skill for a grade.

A Resource at Your Fingertips!

If you're looking for a quick, accessible, all-encompassing resource that can be used throughout the entire school year... you've found it! This is the first of many to come, the Grammar Resource Ring {Fourth Grade Edition}! Did I mention, it contains a card for EVERY grammar standard?! :) I am switching grades after spending my first two years of teaching in fifth grade! A few weeks ago, I moved to Las Vegas to be closer to the love of my life. With that being said, I got a job teaching fourth grade! I am a HUGE grammar junkie when it comes to TpT products, so I started my journey in that department. I wanted a resource that I could use all year long to provide as a reference to my students. I wanted to provide examples on each card. I also wanted to incorporate sample questions to give my students extra practice or even a look at more examples. On the front of every card (teal side), you'll find the teaching or modeling samples. This side gives a brief (to the point) reminder and definition for how this standard is used. The back side (black and white) contains five questions (similar to a set of task cards) to give your students extra practice for each skill. Included, you're students will have an answering page to record their responses. A key can be found on the last page of this product as well as a duplicate of each card with the correct answers marked in red. This set can be used in many different ways in your classroom. You can store it in your room and pull it out every week to introduce each skill. You can leave it as an extra resource for struggling students to look back at. You can use the set of task cards included for standardized testing review. You can even use this for small group instruction or reteaching on of the standards. Some of my students tend to struggle with the parts of speech that accompany these skills as well. To help in this area, the last few resource cards provide reteaching for those parts of speech. Practice questions are also included for these parts of speech. As I create more, I plan to expand this product into different subject areas. Be on the look out! Tricky Homophones: Their, There, & They're

Homophones can be so tricky! Why not make them fun? If you have ever read or shared the picture book, They're There on Their Vacation by Brian P. Cleary, this activity pairs hand in hand with it!

First, introduce the story and we talk about WHY we are reading it. It is also important that they share their understanding of what each homophone means and how it is to be used in a sentence. The back of the book even comes with definitions! Our main goal is to establish the purpose of sharing this book while explaining their future task, mastering this set of homophones! Next, I read aloud the story to my students, stopping at important parts to clarify or discuss the meanings of the different homophones when they become tricky. Finally, we move on to the main event, multiple choice homophone task cards! 

These color coordinate with the picture book and have the same vacation theme! With these task cards, you can spread them around the room and use them traditionally or you can play scoot with them. They each take about the same amount of time to complete, making it convenient to use in different ways.

Task Card Passports Are Here!

I absolutely love using task cards in my classroom! In order to incorporate task cards in a different light, I have created a Task Card Passport. Rather than just setting out different sets of task cards, I have intrigued my students with their own personal grammar passport! These passports will allow my students to review multiple grammar skills before our second round of standardized testing arrives. 

Here's how it works! Each student is responsible for completing each set of task cards on their passport. They will complete each set at a time, check their answers (as pictured above), bring their answer sheet and passport to me, and I will give them a stamp for each completed section. I made this passport completely editable to provide differentiation for your class. You can select specific activities that you want specific students to work on. You can have students complete three in a row if you do not want them to or have time to complete the entire page.  With this being editable, I have also included all of the fonts that are needed for your passport to look identical to the pictured passport above.

Singular and Plural Nouns Sort {Winter Themed}

It's time for a monthly dollar deal where I link up with Teacher Deals and Dollar Steals! This month, I wanted to feature a best selling skill from my store and create a winter themed sort. My students love doing sorts as a whole class, with a partner, in centers, or even on their own. I love that they are so versatile!

This set includes two different sorts, one with sentences and one with words. The sentence sort includes 18 different sentences that your students will sort according to the underlined noun. They will have a recording sheet where they will write down the noun under the correct category {singular or plural}. The word sort includes 20 sorting cards and a recording sheet as well. Both sorts come with answer keys. For my own classroom, I keep the keys in a designated area, so students may check they answers to see if they are correct or need reteaching.
